Our Mission

To Provide High-Quality, Personalized Care to Each Child and Their Family

Our Story

Dr. Leah Jacobson has practiced pediatric medicine in San Antonio for over 20 years. She founded Personal Pediatrics to provide high-quality, personalized care to each child and their family. As a Direct Primary Care physician, Dr. Jacobson does not contract with traditional insurance companies.

Our goal is to provide medical care without the time constraints of traditional medicine. Under these constraints, patient office visits are generally less than ten minutes with the physician. Additionally, parents are typically unable to speak with their child’s physician outside of business hours or address most concerns outside of a visit. However, with the Personal Pediatrics membership model, appointments are on average 30 to 60 minutes in duration and parents will have access to their child’s physician via text, phone call, email, or virtual video during and outside of business hours. Increased visits and accessibility allow for the opportunity to build a strong connection and provide personable, high quality child healthcare focused on the whole child. It is like having a pediatrician in the family!

The name Personal Pediatrics is symbolic of what we represent- providing personalized care. The incorporated symbol of the thumbprint in our logo embodies the uniqueness of each individual. We hope to support the movement of transforming healthcare for families by providing services without the constraints of the traditional healthcare industry. We hope to guide families and support each child’s transition from newborn to young adult, focusing on the whole child and building lasting relationships. The color blue in our logo represents calm, trust, and competence, which are the characteristics we strive to cultivate in the care we provide.

Meet the Physician

Dr. Jacobson grew up in College Station, TX, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University. She attended medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, and remained in San Antonio for residency, eventually planting roots in Alamo Heights with her family. After training, she began working for UT-Health at their downtown pediatric clinic in order to have flexibility with her then-young children. Dr. J eventually transitioned to small-group private practices in 2003. She remained in that practice setting until December 2022.

In an effort to provide a better way to practice medicine, Dr. J left that practice model of over 20 years to start this new endeavor, a Direct Patient Care practice model. By getting rid of the middle man, she can once again enjoy the practice of medicine and focus on what really matters:

  • Caring for patients
  • Understanding their unique needs
  • Creating individualized treatment plans, and
  • Building long-term relationships with families.

Dr. J has a hands-on, holistic approach to patient care and is personally invested in the health and well-being of her patients. She educates, informs, and partners with parents to make the best healthcare decisions for their children. Dr. J provides support and guidance through the many challenges of parenthood and strives to make a positive impact on every child’s life. She welcomes parents, and kids of all ages, to experience the difference Personal Pediatrics provides.

Dr. Jacobson is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is an active member of the Texas Medical Association, Bexar County Medical Society, the Texas Pediatric Society, and the San Antonio Pediatric Society. Dr. Jacobson is married to her supportive husband, Trey, and together they have three wonderful children, a terrific daughter-in-law, and an energetic corgi named Kenzie. In her spare time, Dr. J enjoys cooking/baking, puzzles, and traveling.
